Purchasing your wedding dress is a big commitment and one of the most exciting parts of your wedding journey! But what do you do if you feel like you didn’t choose the absolute perfect dress? Rest easy—you’re not alone!

With so much time between the purchase of your dress, its arrival, and tailoring, some brides end up feeling a bit of wedding dress buyer's remorse. So what do you do if you start to have these feelings?

It’s okay! Take a deep breath and keep reading… We’ve gathered some helpful tips to help ease your wedding dress anxiety.

Select your wedding dress entourage carefully

One of the most common reasons a bride will second guess her dress is because she was swayed by her guests' opinions instead of staying true to herself and trusting her own gut instinct and desire.

When you dream about trying on wedding dresses, of course you picture being surrounded by your closest friends and family, but before you make your appointment, we encourage you to think about your guest list carefully. Does your squad have your best interest at heart and will they take your thoughts and feelings into consideration? Every mother, sister, and best friend will have an opinion on what dress would look best on you, but remember— it’s YOUR opinion that matters, and if you don’t feel comfortable in a dress that was suggested to you, trust that feeling. A confident bride is a beautiful bride, so if you feel beautiful in the dress you chose, we know you’ll look beautiful in it, too!

Avoid looking at other gowns after the fact

With the added pressures of “wedding dress perfection” on social media, it can be hard to avoid the feeling that “the grass is greener on the other side”—even when you’ve already found your perfect dress. What do you do if a different style of dress catches your eye or what if you see your perfect dress on another bride while scrolling through Instagram?

Theodore Roosevelt said “comparison is the thief of joy” and we couldn’t agree more! While there are hundreds upon hundreds of beautiful gowns out there, remember, there’s a reason why you love your dress so much. So, if you’ve already purchased your gown and you’re having trouble with comparison, it may be best to unfollow other wedding dress designers for a while— at least until after your wedding day.

What if my dress has already arrived?

If your wedding dress has already come in and you’re undecided, take a moment to consider your options before entertaining the idea of purchasing another dress. Sometimes all it takes is another opinion to feel confident in your choice, so try pulling on a trustworthy friend or family member.

If you sleep on it… and sleep on it… and sleep on it… and you're still feeling unsure about your gown, there are a few small things that can be added to make it feel more like the right dress. Maybe we can add some fun accessories, like a belt or even a cape to give it that special touch! Or maybe you bought a strapless gown but wish it had sleeves. You can take it to an alterations specialist to see what choices are available—they can help you transform an "okay" dress into one you can't wait to wear! P.S. we have a wonderful team of seamstresses who can help you customize your gown if needed.

What if I truly regret purchasing my dress?

Even with more time and opinions, you may realize that you actually regret purchasing your wedding gown, and that's okay—trust your instincts and talk to your wedding planner. It's likely that they've worked with brides who have had similar thoughts and can help you figure out what to do next. If you do decide to purchase another dress, go back to the store where you bought your first dress and kindly tell them about how you’re feeling and find out what your options are. Although It’s not a guarantee, you may be able to get your deposit back and put it towards another dress at the same place. Otherwise, you could sell your dress and purchase a new one (if there is time).
