2021 Dress Trends are here and they are amazing! The current bridal trends certainly are influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing, especially with smaller weddings and elopement ceremonies becoming the norm. Some of the trends we’re seeing reflect a rise in a more understated look and others are reminiscent of the 70’s (the good parts).
These style trends are sure to make you the talk of your intimate wedding. Let’s get to it. Shall we?
Crepe/Matte Satin/Mikado
This one’s for the modern bride. Clean & minimalist crepe, matte satin, or mikado looks were all over the Bridal Fashion Week runways, and often paired with a square neckline. Fabrics with a clean, crisp appearance, crepe, matte satin, and mikado are structured but also light enough to work for any season. Also, if you're wanting a more ornate, but still understated look, a simple, clean skirt is a great balance to an embellished bodice.
Understated Sparkle
While sparkle is not a new trend by any means, the Bridal Fashion runways revealed a ton of understated shimmer by way of glitter tulle and tonal sequins and beading, instead of the metallic bling popular in past seasons. This trend is perfect for an evening ceremony!
Jumpsuit & Pants
These sleek dress alternatives are comfortable, flattering, and completely in the moment. Plus, there’s no way to put on a tailored jumpsuit and NOT feel like you run the world. Whether they are for the entire wedding or an outfit change for the reception, pants and jumpsuits are a fun alternative to a traditional wedding gown.
Short Trains
In recent years we’ve seen gorgeous, long trains with cathedral veils rule the Bridal Runway, but shorter trains will be popular in 2021 as we have mentioned that wedding fashion is trending a bit more casual than in previous years.
Overskirts
Another trend we’re loving is the overskirt. A lightweight tulle overskirt adds both dimension and texture while creating a super romantic and ethereal look. A detachable overskirt over a fitted dress is perfect for the bride who wants two easy, but beautiful wedding looks. These skirts can be either very simple or incredibly ornate, complete with multiple layers, lace and/or beads. Whichever style you choose, you are guaranteed to have that WOW effect.
Detachable Accessories
Speaking of overskirts, a huge trend is detachable dress features and accessories! We’re seeing a lot of detachable sleeves, like these, off-the-shoulder drape sleeves, as well as belts, skirts, capes, trains, and more! Pro tip: Our alterations team can customize your dress with beautiful accents such as these to create your dream gown.
Bishop Sleeves
Sleeves have been back ever since Kate Middleton wore a long-sleeved wedding dress. But this year Bishop sleeves —which are loose in the arm and fitted at the wrists— are the trend of the moment. They’re the perfect trend to try if you’re looking for something different. Depending on the style of the dress, bishop sleeves can add the perfect touch to a boho, classic, or fairytale-inspired look.
Lace Appliqué
Lace appliqué is not a new trend, but we are seeing some interesting twists to this bridal staple. Very large floral motifs, as well as fresh, leafy patterns offer a unique look. Architectural or geometric patterns offer another alternative to the traditional floral lace that has been popular for years. We expect this wide variety of lace options to remain very popular throughout 2021, partly because it adds beautiful texture and interest to clean fabrics and simple silhouettes that are currently trending as well.
Conclusion
As you can see, several of these gowns have more than one of these great trends! While simple, modern looks are super “in,” so are ethereal, sparkly looks. Whichever way you want to go, trendy or classic, we have a selection of gowns for every single bride on every budget! And we’d love to help you find “the one.”
