Let’s break down these fittings and alterations and see exactly what it all means for you!

Fitting Appointments

Fitting appointments are usually scheduled two months prior to the wear date (portraits or wedding day) On the day of the fitting appointment, the bride is encouraged to bring any special undergarment that she plans to wear.

The Perfect Fit

In order to make sure that your dress fits you just perfect, and depending on the dress style, approximately three fittings are suggested. At the first fitting, the tailor will adjust and pin the dress in all the right places (usually bodice and hips). Then, we will schedule additional fittings, until we’ve reached the perfect fit for you and your dress.

The Hem:

The hem appointment will help us get the dress length sorted out. To ensure the hem length is to your specifications, we recommend bringing your wedding shoes to this fitting. We want every layer to be just right - in fact perfect - for your wedding day.

The Bustle:

If your dress has a train, a bustle is recommended. This prevents the train from dragging on the floor during the reception. Read below for the different bustle options you can discuss with your tailor.

American Style: The American style bustle is created with clear buttons and loops, lifting the train (over) to the proper area on the back.

French Style: The French style bustle is created with multiple ribbons, tied (under) the dress to form a delicate fold.

Original Style: An original style bustle is created to suit the dress style or the brides’ (your) vision!

Quality Check / Steam:

Finally, your dress is checked, then checked again for all trims, lace, beads, etc. We want to make sure that every detail is just right, and that you are 500% happy with the final product. Only then will the dress be steamed and hung on a bust form to maintain the perfect shape until it’s ready for pick up.

Lastly comes the dress pick up and you guessed it… THE BIG DAY!

Your wedding day is one of the biggest and happiest days of your life, but there is a lot of time and planning that goes into making it that way! One thing you shouldn’t have to worry about is making sure that your dress fits perfectly. Let us do that for you.

After all, that’s what we are here for. We don’t stop after we’ve found you the perfect dress. With skilled tailors and all of the alteration appointments you need, The Poinsett Bride is your one stop shop to making your wedding day dress dreams come true!
